Pickups and Headers > 900 Series Draper Headers for Combines

You’ve Bought A Bigger Combine... Shouldn’t You Have A Bigger Header As Well?

Today’s combines are bigger and capable of delivering more capacity than ever before – so much so that on many combines a significant portion of that capacity goes unused. The problem lies in the fact that while combines have increased in size over the last few decades, auger headers haven’t. For most combine applications the largest auger header that can feasibly be used is 30', insufficient for maximizing the capacity of today’s largest combines. But now there is a way to claim that untapped capacity – a MacDon draper header. MacDon headers represent the latest in draper header technology, and hold significant production benefits for custom harvesters, high acreage producers or anyone looking to take full advantage of their combine’s harvesting capacity.

Increase Your Harvesting Capacity by 30% or More

The improved feeding qualities and increased ground speed of MacDon draper headers allow them to outperform conventional auger style headers of the same size. This means your productivity can be increased by at least 30% when you move up from a 30' conventional auger header to a MacDon 39' draper header (973 only) when traveling at the same ground speed. Cutting more with each pass not only reduces the amount of time you spend in the field, it can also reduce your fuel and labor costs – plus extend the operational life of your combine (by reducing the number of machine hours required for each harvesting job).

Increased Ground Speed

Even for farmers that don’t move up in header size there are still important advantages to be enjoyed from a MacDon draper’s smoother crop flow. For example, most farmers who switch from a 30’ auger to a 30’ MacDon draper find that they can significantly increase their ground speed (in most crop conditions). Foot for foot, a draper header allows most farmers to be more productive than with the same sized auger.

More Gentle Crop Handling

MacDon draper headers convey the crop gently along the width of the draper with minimal disturbance of seed heads and pods (unlike auger headers where the crop is churned as it is moved along the header towards the feeder house). This helps promote minimal seed loss for maximum crop recovery in delicate crops like grass seeds, edible beans and soybeans or when crops are dry and fragile.

Consistently Clean Shave

Both the 973 Harvest Header® and the 974 FlexDraper® feature MacDon’s unique C-shaped cutterbar, which permits cutting at ground level for the most consistently clean shave of your fields. This close cutting ability combined with the reel’s ability to float with the sickle (allowing it to gently lift the crop like a comb) means improved crop recovery in crop that is downed, lodged or tangled.

Choose From Three Headers

MacDon draper headers are available in three versions: the 974 FlexDraper®, ideal for soybean and general multi-crop harvesting, the 973 Harvest Header®, designed for low-podding crops and high acreage multi-crop harvesting, and the 963 Harvest Header®, the perfect dryland farming solution.
